There are a few ways to make your favorite scents last, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. Here’s a few tips on how to make cologne last longer:
- When to Apply:
- Right after the shower, not as you’re walking out the door
- After a shower, skin pores are more open and absorb cologne
- Avoid applying in low humidity, high heat, and dry environments
- Where to Apply
- Spray on the wrists, ears, nape of the neck, inside of elbows, but not on clothes
- Cologne and other fragrances can damage material, while also dissipating quickly and losing potency
- Do not rub wrists together, as this will diminish the fragrance quickly
- How to Apply
- Layering your fragrances is key to longer lasting results
- Overapplication can be overwhelming - 2 sprays maximum is recommended
- However, a re-application later in the day after the cologne has gone through its stages is recommended
- Which to Apply
- Use an EDP over other forms of fragrances
- Higher concentration in EDP, where eau de toilette is lower concentration
- Other Considerations
- Dehydrated skin will diminish the fragrance. Ensure your skin is hydrated with oils and lotions prior to applying cologne
- Consider the base notes and choose one that has a more defined scent such as a musk, woody note, or a spice
- Store in a cool place, such as a cabinet. Storing in the bathroom can lead to diminished scents
